About Tess

Tess grew up in Lincolnshire and spent many years travelling; from Scandinavia and North America to the South Pacific islands of Australia, New Zealand and Fiji; she was never far from the sea. When she settled back in the UK, she spent a few years in St Ives, Cornwall and it was watching the working artists, in those little cobbled back streets, that inspired Tess to go back to college.

In 2006, Tess graduated from Cornwall College with an HND in Fine Arts and in 2009-10, ran her own studio workshop in St Ives. In 2015, she moved to the North Norfolk coast and the following year found her current space in Hoppers Yard, where she could work and exhibit her own and a changing selection of other artists’ work.

If you are interested in commissioning a bespoke piece of work for your home, feel free to pop by the gallery for a chat with Tess or use the contact details below. If you are unable to visit the gallery, we are happy to post any item in the UK and overseas. You can also follow us daily on social media.

About the Gallery

Tess Ainley Gallery is situated in Hoppers Yard, in the historic Georgian town of Holt. The house and outbuildings originally date back to around 1715, when it was originally an old coaching inn and ale house. The yard was named after the late Arthur Hopper, whose secret garden, barns and outbuildings, have now been converted into some beautiful, independent boutiques, specialising in fine art and interiors. No visit would be complete without enjoying an elegant afternoon tea in the vintage inspired 'Folly Tearooms', where you can sit and relax in the beautiful gardens.

It is a friendly and welcoming, independent art gallery, currently featuring the work of 20+ emerging and established contemporary British artists, who specialise in mixed media. There is also a diverse collection of textiles, ceramics, photography and jewellery.
